Adding computer memoroy……..?
I have a Dell Dimension 4500 and it came with the following memory stick:
32Mx64 SDRAM PC700U
I have some memory at home that came from older Dell machines scuh as a GX260. Can I use that memory stick in my 4500? It is 64MX64 SDRAM, PC2100U
Are there any Web sites that show you what similar memory sticks are compatible with others? I know I can go to a site and have them tell me what my memory is but……….
The cards are almost identical. They both will fit in my computer’s slot but obviously I’m not gonig to use that information to make my decision. lol Help?
Is there a difference between PC2700u and PC2100u?
If both modules are DDR (the easiest way to tell other than looking at the sticker on the module is to hold them up side by side and look for the notch in the pins) then you won’t do any damage by trying the new module. If it doesn’t work, just pull it back out.
EDIT: You will NOT do any damage by trying the new module, worst comes to worse the computer just won’t boot with the new module and you have to remove it.
